*Old Sheffield Plate was the alternative way to produce silver pieces from approximately the 1740s until about the 1830s and was developed accidentally by Thomas Boulsover of Sheffield, England. Old Sheffield Plate preceded Electroplating which became the easier and most cost efficient method of plating silver post 1840s and is still being produced today. With its short history of less than 100 years, Old Sheffield Plate has become quite rare and valuable as time goes on.
