This early 20th century soup tureen boasts generous grape and leaf appliques and is elevated on demure leaf shaped feet. With long elegant handles and a lid that mimics the graceful lines of early English predecessors, this stunning vessel will command the attention of anyone in its presence. Designed and produced by the prestigious American silver company, Theodore B. Starr (1877-1924), who was previously associated with German jeweler, Herman Marcus. Starr's designs at the time were touted by the press as being inimitable and eventually earned a permanent exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This silver plate on copper soup tureen is a fantastic example of the company's legacy and is in excellent antique condition. Minor wear but no notable dents or silver loss to the exterior and measures approximately 14" long x 10" wide x 14" high with the lid on. Interior copper is visible. Tureen is signed and is accompanied by a similar designed ladle by Rogers Silver Co.
