Marigolds is an original early 20th-century color woodblock print by German artist Ilse Koch-Amberg (1869–1934). Pencil signed by the artist and titled beneath the image, the print also bears the blind embossed mark of Wohlgemuth & Lissner, Berlin, the respected publisher and art dealer through which the work was originally retailed.
Unlike later reproductions, an original color woodblock print is created by hand from individually carved wooden blocks, with each color printed in successive layers. This meticulous process produces the rich, softly textured surface and subtle tonal variation that distinguish original block prints from conventional lithographs or modern prints.
Presented in its period gilt frame, Marigolds offers both historical significance and timeless decorative appeal. Its intimate scale, cheerful floral subject, and authentic early 20th-century provenance make it a beautiful addition to a gallery wall, bookshelf, or thoughtfully collected interior. In excellent condition with age related wear to frame. Overall measures 9.5x10.5”.
