This striking mirror, designed by American sculptor and set designer Neal Martz for the Metropolitan Opera House, is a rare and elegant collector’s piece. Featuring a richly detailed frame in the shape of the proscenium with theatrical motifs, including stage curtains and neoclassical ornamentation, the design reflects Martz’s celebrated work in theatrical set design and decorative arts. A key figure in 20th-century opera staging, Martz contributed to the grandeur and visual storytelling of the Met, one of the most prestigious opera houses in the world, founded in 1883 and currently housed at Lincoln Center since 1966. This mirror captures that opulent spirit, offering a dramatic and timeless presence. It remains in very good vintage condition with only a few minor chips to the outer edges, consistent with age. A beautiful conversation piece and a touch of theatrical history for any interior. Cast from a heavy composite material and measures approximately 10” x 11” high.
