This antique German porcelain vase, crafted in the Dresden tradition around the turn of the 20th century, is richly adorned with a profusion of hand-applied porcelain flowers that cascade across the surface in a vibrant garden bouquet. Each blossom was individually modeled in porcelain and carefully attached by hand before firing, creating the delicate three-dimensional floral encrustation for which Dresden and the surrounding Thuringian porcelain workshops became famous. The elegant double-handled form is accented with soft gilded details and a gently flared rim, and the piece retains its original pierced porcelain lid crowned with a sculpted floral finial. Originally designed as a covered potpourri vase, the pierced lid allowed fragrant flowers or herbs to perfume a room while the elaborate floral decoration echoed the romantic garden aesthetic popular in European decorative arts at the turn of the century. Measuring approximately 10 inches high with the lid (8.25 inches without) and about 5 inches wide, this charming example displays beautifully as a decorative accent, whether used with fresh flowers as shown or presented as a complete covered urn.
