Elevate your library with this exquisite pair of antique owl bookends from the esteemed Pompeian Bronze Company. These pieces depict a wise owl perched atop a stack of books, symbolizing knowledge and wisdom. Meticulously crafted using the bronze-clad technique, they boast a cold-painted finish that accentuates the intricate details, from the owl’s textured feathers to the spines of the books beneath.

These bookends not only serve as functional supports for your treasured volumes but also stand as remarkable examples of early 20th-century American craftsmanship. Their timeless design and historical significance make them a prized addition for collectors and literary enthusiasts alike. Each measures approximately 6” x 3.5” x 2.75” deep.

The Pompeian Bronze Company traces its origins to the Galvano Bronze Company, founded by Paul Mori around 1889 in New York City. Galvano Bronze was among the pioneers in commercializing bronze electroplating and electro-forming in the United States. In 1915, they introduced bookends into their product line. In the early 1920s, the company was sold to its employees and rebranded as the Pompeian Bronze Company. They continued producing high-quality bronze-clad items, including bookends, until ceasing operations in the late 1920s or early 1930s.
